McBath wins primary for new majority-Black GA-06, projections say
Incumbent on track for easy general election win in heavily Democratic district
U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath on Tuesday easily won the Democratic nomination for the newly majority-Black 6th congressional district, according to projections.
She defeats Cobb County Commissioner Jerica Richardson and state Rep. Mandisha Thomas, holding a commanding 20,000-vote lead over her rivals shortly before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
The three-term metro Atlanta congresswoman once again overcame new sets of political maps and a spirited field of challengers in this year’s primary, putting her on track to easily win the November general election in this heavily Democratic district.
The new 6th district is based south and west of Atlanta, serving parts of Fulton, Cobb, Douglas and Fayette counties. It also takes in the western third of Atlanta proper.
