As early voting gets underway, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams will meet for their first live debate Monday night in Atlanta. They will be joined by Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel.
It is part of a series of televised debates that are being presented by the Atlanta Press Club, a nonprofit organization consisting of journalists and TV news anchors from across Georgia.
Trailing in the polls, Abrams is expected to heavily attack Kemp over issues such as abortion, Medicaid expansion and access to the ballot box.
The governor, meanwhile, is likely to champion his economic agenda and warn voters that Abrams will worsen the pain they are feeling at the gas pump and the checkout line at the grocery store.
Monday’s debate will air live at 7:00 PM ET on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB). It will be moderated by Jennifer Bellamy of 11Alive, with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein and WRBL’s Chuck Williams serving as the panelists.
The Atlanta Press Club hosted a debate for U.S. Senate on Sunday, but Republican Herschel Walker declined to attend and was represented by an empty lectern.
The APC is set to hold debates in other statewide races, including Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State. The full debate lineup can be viewed here.
