Good Tuesday morning! Election Day 2022 is finally here and the polls have opened in Georgia.
Voters all across the country will be determining the balance of power in the U.S. Congress, who will occupy state governorships and who could oversee the counting of ballots in the 2024 presidential election.
Roughly 43 million Americans have already cast their ballot — a record turnout at this point for a midterm election. But those who have not voted yet will have the opportunity to do so today.
Here in Georgia, a blockbuster rematch between Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams is likely to come down to the wire. And the hotly-contested U.S. Senate contest between Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker is also headed for a photo finish.
Georgia voters will also be sending 14 U.S. Representatives to Congress and electing all 236 members of the state legislature. Statewide constitutional offices, from Secretary of State, to Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General, are also on the ballot.
And I will be working hard throughout the day to give you all the latest results on all of the major races. You can catch me on MSNBC this morning at around 11:00AM ET to go over what to expect as the polls close tonight. My Atlanta friends will also be able to hear me on 90.1 WABE tonight at around 10:30PM ET.
And of course, you can follow me on Twitter, @NilesGApol, for updates all through the night heading into Wednesday morning.
Let’s do this!
Polls close at 7:00PM ET, Georgia!
Update: My interview on MSNBC has been cancelled.
