Gov 2022: Kemp enters 2022 with $12.7M on hand
The Governor's campaign has raised $7M since July
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s re-election campaign just wrapped up another record fundraising period.
The embattled Republican incumbent announced on Tuesday that his campaign is entering the new year with roughly $12.7 million in the bank after raising $7.4 million in the last seven months.
The numbers are the clearest sign yet that Kemp does not plan to go down without a fight as he faces tough competition from both parties.
Former U.S. Sen. David Perdue is challenging Kemp in the Republican primary and has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump — who has grown frustrated with Kemp for refusing to echo his false claims about the accuracy of the 2020 presidential election. Perdue has yet to share his fundraising figures.
On the Democratic side, Kemp’s archrival Stacey Abrams is gearing up for a rematch in 2022. The former State House Democratic leader has become a household name in the national party following her historic but unsuccessful campaign in 2018. While her campaign has not shared any fundraising figures yet, Abrams is known for being a very talented fundraiser.
Not even two years after an election cycle that broke fundraising records, Georgia voters are once again preparing to be blanketed with robocalls, mail pieces and negative commercials as candidates for governor vie for every last vote.
The governor race is not the only competitive election unfolding in the Peach State this year. Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock has over $23 million on hand as he gears up to defend his seat. And two House Democrats reported having more than $2 million on hand as they compete for a solidly blue Gwinnett-based constituency.
